Growing my client list in small pockets of time...
Yes, even as a mom of 2 littles and while working and marketing less!
From the beginning of my business, I have made a commitment to myself that I would work no more than 20 hours a week. Now, there's probably been a couple weeks here and there that I have worked more, but I'm very diligent about not going over that cap. I've made and grown my business based off of those hours. We started about four years ago, and from there we have continually grown!
I do credit a lot of this to the fact that I have a team to support me, and if I didn't have that, I couldn't grow the business like I have. And so that's part of how I've done what I've done. That being said I think the biggest part is to be super productive, making sure you have systems in place and making sure that what you are doing is working. My guess is that 20% of the work that you're doing is what is actually moving the needle point, and 80% of the work is probably not really necessary.
Personally, this past summer I have really slimmed down my hours to work only about eight hours a week. My kids were home, and I really didn't want to work more than that. That's not always the case, and now that my kids just started school a few weeks ago I'll be able to spend a lot more time in my business. What's kinda fun though is throughout the summertime, we have had our biggest months yet. And no, it was not from posting on social media. No, it was not from engaging on stories. No, it was not from posting and always being on threads, as a lot of people say (I do think these are great marketing tactics, however, it should not be the only thing you do or the end all, be all).
I highly, highly recommend having podcast interviews as part of your marketing strategy. Once you land the podcast, you hop on a call for an hour, and then they take it from there. Once the episode goes live you're able to get in front of their audience and let them know what you're about, so it's one of the easiest ways to get in front of a lot of other people that you normally wouldn't have. With that though, you do want to make sure that there's systems and automations in place to handle the new clients you bring on. You know I love ClickUp, so whether you use that, Dubasdo or Honeybook, or whatever it is, just make sure you have a system and place for all the documents, client info, etc that you'll need.
So if you're a mom of littles and want to grow your bookkeeping business in a short amount of time, it's possible! And I'd love to help you do it. I have a couple mentoring spots I'm opening up for September (now that the kids are back in school 😉). Click the button below for more details and feel free to hit reply with any questions!
